Plainview Area United Way has raised more than $15,000 to help address the impact COVID-19 has had on the area.

“Even under very unique and challenging circumstances, we were able to pull off something pretty special this year,” Matt Corbin, marketing director for the United Family and JPCC chairman, said. “The tenacity of this organization and their vendor partners to roll up their sleeves and ensure the United Way agencies depending on them were not disappointed was amazing to see. The tournament went on – even without the golf.”

The United Family was able to raise $500,000 for United Way chapters in Texas, a news release stated. The 28 United Way organizations have been hosting a golf tournament each year since 1991, and 2020 was the first year without the charity golf tournament.

The next tournament is scheduled for August 2021. The tournament was renamed after Jacky Pierce, United Supermarkets longtime produce director, after his death in 2002 to cancer.
