LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN COLLEGE: LCU Natural Sciences Professor Honored by Wildlife Society

Bartdurham

Lubbock Christian College issued the following announcement.

Dr. Bart Durham was honored at the 2020 annual meeting of the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (AFS), where he was awarded the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society Outstanding Fisheries Worker of the Year Award for Fisheries Education.

Dr. Durham is an associate professor of natural sciences at LCU and director of the university’s Natural Resources, Conservation, and Ecology program, where he teaches courses in general ecology, aquatic ecology, wildlife and fisheries science, and environmental science. The distinguished award recognized Dr. Durham for his longstanding commitment to providing his students with excellent learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.

Dr. Durham’s contributions to academia are apparent in his frequent participation with LCU’s undergraduate research programs, through which he has presented alongside LCU students at conventions across the nation.

Dr. Foy Mills, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at LCU, explained that this is not Dr. Durham’s first recognition by the AFS. “During his 20 years with the society, Dr. Durham has won the outstanding student, researcher, and now Educator awards from the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society,” he said. “As a graduate student, he received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award and later was recognized with the Outstanding Research Award.”

Dr. Durham shared, “The award recognizes the sustained success of LCU’s Natural Resource Conservation program for over ten years. Thus, I view the award as an LCU award as much as I do an individual award.”
