City of Snyder issued the following announcement.
This morning Snyder Mayor Tony Wofford, Snyder City Manager Merle Taylor and other Snyder City officials joined other West Texas Governments, Hospital and Municipality representatives during a conference call with U.S. House Representative Jodey Arrington regarding (COVID – 19), the Coronavirus. The big take away was that this is a novel virus that warrants aggressive preparedness to prevent the spread of the disease. A positive test result for the coronavirus does NOT mean fatality. Again, drastic measures have been put in place to prevent the spread of the disease not because of the nature of the virus.
The elderly, immune compromised or individuals with other co-morbidities should be most aware and use good hygiene practices to stave off possible exposure. Many of us should simply use commons sense in public areas or around large gatherings just as you would with the regular flu. Due to a lack of information and 24-hour media coverage of the coronavirus, our concern has turned to fear and caused unexpected shortages on everyday commodities which is additionally alarming.
Representative Arrington informed us the federal government is voting on legislation this morning that will approve funding to make resources available to medical professionals for testing and treatment and economic relief for individuals affected by the virus. Everything that can be done now is, and we should be aware but not panicked.
As more information becomes available to us, we will share add it to our website and social media. If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms such as a cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.
