LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN COLLEGE: Encounter Live to be Streamed Sunday Night

Online

Lubbock Christian College issued the following announcement on June 4

Despite cancelling its normal camp sessions due to COVID-19 concerns, Lubbock Christian University will be streaming a night of Encounter’s evening worship on Sunday, Jun 7 at 7 p.m.

Encounter Live will be a free livestream of an evening of worship. The hour-long event will feature Best Friends and Thomas Aduddell leading worship in the typical Encounter fashion, and LCU’s own Dr. David Fraze, who has been a staple on the LCU summer camp stage, will share a timely lesson on discovering who Jesus really is.

“We know the name, and a bit about him,” he explained, “but when you meet the Jesus found in the Bible—well, you’ll never be the same.”

The evening will also include some giveaways and an interactive chat. The LCU summer camps website also has a registration page, where students can sign up for a drawing for free week of camp for the summer of 2021—either Encounter or Camp Champion—which will be given away at the end of the night.

The link for the livestream, as well as registration for the giveaways, can be found at the LCU summer camps website.

When LCU announced that the usual sessions of camps would not be taking place in person, university leadership knew it would be difficult news for many who look forward to those weeks each year.

“The anticipation of those experiences is very real. But a new reality is that the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown our world into chaos changing our plans and the routines in all of our lives,” said Josh Stephens, Dean of Students and director of summer camps. “In response to this international pandemic, those of us responsible for LCU camps have been forced to ask ourselves difficult questions about summer activities on the LCU campus.”

The decision was made in early May to cancel on-campus camps, but those in charge immediately launched plans to bring those experiences to teens in a virtual format.

The first step of those plans comes in the form of Encounter Live.  “While this will be different from the normal Encounter experience, it will be a unique way of connecting and hearing from our Encounter team,” explained Stephens.

In addition, LCU will be releasing a series of videos to churches containing worship sessions with Best Friends, lessons from Encounter and Camp Champion teachers, and other informative and engaging content for youth groups. And finally, Encounter LE will also return to campus this fall, from November 6-8, inviting middle- and high-school students to campus in an abbreviated version of camp.
