Cost of college went up for all students at South Plains College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.5 percent for 2018-19 at South Plains College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $3,584 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $120 more than the $3,464 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 10.7 percent more than residents this year, or $3,968. Their price tag grew 3.1 percent from $3,848 in 2017-18.

About 96 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. And about 3 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 84 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,073 students received grants or scholarships totaling $5.2 million and 316 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (9,310), 4,938 students used grants or scholarships totaling $20.8 million, and 2,166 students took out $12 million in federal student loans.
