Due to the drought that has stricken portions of Texas, Dickens County is among four Texas communities recently designated as primary natural disaster areas by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

The designation opens up eligibility for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. As contiguous counties, the West Texas communities of Floyd, Garza, Hockley, Kent, Motley and Terry counties are also eligible to apply for emergency loans, according to the USDA. The loans can be used to meet a variety of needs related to recovery, including replacement of livestock and equipment, reorganization of farming operations, and refinancing of EBT.

Applicants have until May 4, 2021 to apply for the emergency loans. Loans will be evaluated according to extent of losses, security availability and repayment ability. Additional information is available online
