Columbia University issued the following announcement.
Columbia College and the Columbia Housing Authority have agreed on an educational partnership to provide participants in the CHA’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program a discounted tuition rate. This opportunity to invest in an exceptional and attainable education is available to participants who take either Evening classes at the college’s main campus in Columbia, or online.
“The Columbia Housing Authority is doing crucial work in our community and the opportunity to offer quality educational options to its clients is something we are passionate about,” said Dr. Piyusha Singh, Columbia College provost and senior vice president. “Access to education is at the heart of everything we do at CC, and we believe this partnership is another avenue to further that mission.”
Columbia College offers classes during six sessions lasting eight weeks each, allowing students to complete their degree quickly. Students can earn an associate degree in 20 months, a bachelor’s degree in 3.5 years, and a master’s degree in just 12 months. The college’s transfer-friendly requirements may allow a student to graduate even earlier if they have previously attended an accredited college or university.
Students will also have the opportunity this spring to utilize the college’s Virtual Education Initiative, which offers a course-by-course option to enroll in either an in-person or virtual section of a given course.
“The Columbia Housing Authority believes no dream is too big, too small or out of reach,” said the organization’s Chief Operating Officer, Andrea Tapia. “Self-sufficiency does not stop with housing; that is where it begins.”
Participants who take advantage of the offer will also have access to the college’s Truition® program, which offers a transparent look at the cost of college by eliminating all fees and providing books at no cost.
