2021-22 School Year: What was most represented ethnicity in Yoakum County County schools?

Of the many ethnicities represented in Yoakum County County schools, Hispanic was the most prevalent ethnicity among Yoakum County County students in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 2,013 students attending Yoakum County County schools, 80.6% were Hispanic. White students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 17.2% of Yoakum County County students.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students still were the most common group in Yoakum County County, representing 79.6% of the student body.

Kelley Elementary School had the most even distribution of races among the county schools, including 81.8% Hispanic students, 15.8% white students, 1.2% Multi-racial students, 0.9% Asian students, and 0.3% American Indian students.

In the 2021-22 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county dropped 2.7% when compared to the previous year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
