There were 126 students enrolled in Southland ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 9.6% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.2% of them were girls, and 46.8% were boys.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 56.3% of the Southland ISD total enrollment.

Southland ISD roughly covers schools within Garza County with its main office in Southland.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
