There were 431 students enrolled in Plains ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 4.6% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.7% of them were boys, and 48.3% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 67.7% of the Plains ISD total enrollment.

Plains ISD roughly covers schools within Yoakum County with its main office in Plains.

Among the three schools in Plains ISD, Plains Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 203 students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
