Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) is leading 14 fellow Texas GOP House members in asking other members of Congress to support a funding freeze for the Department of Homeland Security until substantial action is taken to secure the nation's southern border. The current administration's efforts are inadequate and have left Texas grappling with a dire border crisis, emphasizing the urgent need for effective border security measures, he said in a recent press release.
"The State of Texas is bearing the brunt of a national crisis at our southern border. No member of Congress should agree to fund a federal agency at war with his state and people," the 15 members of the House said in a "Dear Colleague" letter to other members of the House, seeking their support.
The State of Texas is disproportionately shouldering the consequences of what they call "unlawful and irresponsible actions" by the Biden administration, their letter said.
The letter said funding for DHS should be halted until “H.R. 2 or similar strong border security legislation” becomes law, policies “that give law enforcement and/or our military the tools necessary to target dangerous cartels” are adopted, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is “removed from office, resigns, is fired, or is otherwise defunded,” and Texas is reimbursed “the $10 billion – to date – for Operation Lonestar and related border security efforts,” other states are also reimbursed and the Biden Administration’s lawsuit against Texas is stopped, the press release said.
The Biden Administration lawsuit asks a federal judge to remove a 1,000-foot-long barrier of linked bright orange buoys the size of wrecking balls from the Rio Grande River, saying the barrier endangers migrants and Border Patrol agents, CBS reported.
The Biden Administration submitted a fresh supplemental funding proposal, allocating $4 billion for border and migration-related expenses, on the same day the letter was circulated, Fox News reported.
Recent indications suggest a resurgence in illegal migrant numbers, as this week has seen encounters with approximately 6,000 illegals per day by border agents, the Fox story said.
